Blocks, mutes, and muted words
Three different tools for three different problems: block (they're gone), mute (you stop seeing them), muted words (filter by topic).
What it is
Three different tools for three different problems:
- Block — they can't see you, you can't see them. Hard cutoff.
- Mute — you stop seeing them, they don't know.
- Muted words — filter your feed by topic or phrase.
Pick the right one for the situation. They're not interchangeable.
How to use it
On any profile, tap · → Block or Mute. Block is reciprocal and visible (your old replies to them disappear too). Mute is silent and one-way.
For muted words, open Settings → Safety → Muted words. Add words or phrases (case-insensitive). Pick whether the filter applies to Feed, DMs, or both.
Review your blocks, mutes, and word filters anytime in Settings → Safety. Unblock or unmute by tapping × next to the entry.
Why it matters
The "one big block button" UX is broken — most of the time you don't want to nuke a relationship, you just want to see less. Mutes give you that without the social cost. Muted words handle the topic problem that blocking individuals can't ("don't show me Spider-Man spoilers for two weeks"). We got you on all three layers.
